Vitamin C occupies a
dominant position in extracellular antioxidant protection. It is also the most
important intracellular antioxidant. Vitamin C is involved in the absorption of
iron from the intestine and the release of iron from its blood transport protein
transferrin, facilitating the entry of this metal into the tissues. Vitamin C
actively participates in the neutralization of toxins, antibiotics and other
compounds foreign to the body.
The main antioxidant
that prevents the pro-oxidant action of vitamin C is vitamin E. Thus, ascorbic
acid stabilizes vitamin E, which is easily destroyed, and vitamin E enhances
the antioxidant effect of vitamin C. In addition to tocopherol, a synergist of
the action of ascorbate is vitamin A.
Even a slight
deficiency of vitamin C is manifested by a feeling of fatigue, decreased
appetite, and a tendency to colds. Easy bruising (hemorrhages) on the skin is
characteristic. Bleeding gums are a rather late manifestation of
hypovitaminosis C. A profound deficiency of vitamin C leads to scurvy. Also,
clinical manifestations of hypovitaminosis are loosening of teeth, swelling and
pain in the joints, bone damage, pallor of the skin, impaired wound healing.
With hypovitaminosis
C, iron deficiency anemia develops due to impaired absorption of iron and the
use of its reserves in the synthesis of hemoglobin. Hypovitaminosis C is always
accompanied by a weakening of the body's immune defenses, as well as an increase
in free radical oxidation reactions, which are the basis of the pathogenesis of
various diseases.
Quercetin (flavonoid)
is an aglycone of many plant flavonoid glycosides, including rutin, and belongs
to vitamin preparations of group P. Dihydroquercetin has a positive effect on
the condition of cartilage, bone and connective tissue, strengthens small and
large blood vessels, and also normalizes the level of triglycerides and
cholesterol in the blood, preventing the formation of blood clots.
Pancreatin is an
enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of proteins, peptides, amides and esters.
Acerola extract
contains vitamins B, E, K, A and beta-carotene. Regular consumption of cherry
fruits helps to cleanse the body of harmful substances and heavy metals. Cherry
fruits have been used in folk medicine for many centuries. It is believed that
cherries help to increase immunity, and also support the body after severe
viral diseases.
Grape seed extract
contains antioxidants that strengthen the walls of blood vessels, reduce the
level of harmful cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. Composition:
polyunsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols; flavonoids; antioxidants; tannins;
vitamins C and E, groups B, A; trace elements, including potassium, calcium,
sodium, phosphorus and magnesium. The substances they contain are aimed at:
protection against oxidative reactions and stress, stimulation of cell and
tissue regeneration processes, slowing down aging processes, neutralizing the
influence of external environmental factors, restoring the elasticity of blood
vessels, reducing the risk of blood clots, improving visual function,
stimulating the formation and transmission of nerve impulses, which increases
concentration, and increasing immunity.
Potassium is a vital
intracellular element that regulates the acid-base balance of the blood. It
participates in the transmission of nerve impulses, activates the work of a
number of enzymes, activates the muscle work of the heart, and has a beneficial
effect on the work of the skin and kidneys. Potassium is able to increase urine
output (has a diuretic effect), which is important for edema and poisoning
(rapid removal of toxins from the blood).
Magnesium is a vital
element that participates in bone formation, regulation of nervous tissue,
carbohydrate metabolism, and energy metabolism. Magnesium improves blood supply
to the heart muscle, so it is necessary for older people. Daily requirement for
adults is 400 mg.
Rutin is a glucoside,
belongs to vitamin P-like substances, that is, it reduces the permeability and
fragility of capillaries.
Iron is a vital
element, affects hematopoiesis, participates in the formation of hemoglobin,
some heme-containing enzymes, the main catalysts of redox processes.
Participates in respiration, in immune reactions. Recommended during pregnancy.
The fetus stores the largest amount of iron in the last 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Daily requirement for adults is 15 mg.
Horse chestnut extract
the main biologically active substances of horse chestnut seeds (Aesculus
hippocastanum L.) are triterpene glycosides - escins, which have pronounced
anti-inflammatory activity. Currently, the seed extract is successfully used
for chronic venous insufficiency.
Ginkgo biloba extract
contains flavonoids, sesquiterpenes and diterpenes. From the group of
flavonoids in the leaves, flavones have been identified: luteolin,
2-hydroxyluteolin, flavonols: glycosides of kaempferol, quercetin, as well as
glycoside esters (with coumaric acid), catechins, leucoanthocyanins.
Biflavonoids include ginkgetin, bilobetin, amentoflavones. A specific substance
is the sesquiterpene trilactone bilobalide, which is a product of the
biological decomposition of active ginkgolidins.
Ginkgo biloba normalizes cerebral and coronary blood circulation, restores
memory, hearing, vision, speech and motor functions impaired as a result of
age-related changes, eliminates circulatory failure (including atherosclerotic
and age-related), restores elasticity and strength of blood vessels, prevents
thrombosis of cerebral and coronary vessels, helps normalize brain tissue
metabolism, improves heart muscle nutrition, has restorative properties, helps
maintain the integrity and permeability of the cell wall, prevents asthma
attacks, has a calming and antispasmodic effect.
All available scientific information about ginkgo indicates its ability to
increase life expectancy.
